Insatiable Appetite For Power And Control Has Cost President Hichilema A Chance To Revolutionize Zambia

If there is one reason why Hakainde Hichilema has failed to deliver what he promised the people of Zambia in the first term as president, it because he became too occupied or preoccupied with consolidating power and control at the expense of serving the nation. Neither did he know that the power and control he so much relished could be maintained through quality service and delivery on promises.

This political booboo, compounded with other known factors like tribalism and regionalism has robbed Hichilema of a chance to bounce back.

You don’t divide the very people you want to rule—it doesn’t stand.
On the whole, there must be a harmony between ruling and serving. These two ought to be harmonized with the help of strong democratic institutions and good governance practices.
Future Presidents must learn something from the decline of President Hichilema and strike a balance between ruling and serving the people.
